Frank’s long term creative partnership with Caravan – the eclectic east London boutique of lovely things – continues with the launch of their new website. This is the third incarnation (hence the 3.0) of Caravan we have created and the site now incorporates a WordPress-powered online shop, client-friendly CMS, and fully integrated blog. Big thanks go out to Caravan founder Emily Chalmers for her patience and ongoing support throughout the project and also over the years!

Oh we do like to be beside the seaside

As big birding fans, Frank needed no extra encouragement when creating this gull-based identity and holding page for From Brighton with Love – a knitted home accessories startup run from the seaside town by designer Sally Evans. As well as the embroidered labels and badges above, we created business cards and the lovely rubber stamp version below.

Frank has designed a new website and online shop for London-based Letterpress printers Harrington & Squires. Run by designer/printers Chrissie Charlton and Vicky Fullick (in a space only 288 picas wide), Harrington & Squires take on bespoke commissioned projects, such as invitations or stationary, design products such as limited edition books, calendars, magnets or cards, and also run workshops where they teach the basics of hand setting type and letterpress printing using Adana presses.

And in case you were wondering… Harrington & Squires is named after two letterpress tutors from Hornsey College of Art in the 60s (Bob and Horace).

Frank has created the identity, website and stationery for the very lovely advertising industry recruitment legend Luisa Shelton. We worked closely with Luisa in order to create a site with a personal feel that reflects her own unique style and quirky take on the world. A helping hand on the character illustrations came from old pal Steve, over at MonkeyChops.

Frank has created the identity, print and website for Scottish Jazz initiative, the J-Word. Via the medium of promoting live tours, the J-Word not only aims to encourage jazz lovers to reconnect with their favourite music, but also to help build an entirely new audience. The project was undertaken for the Scottish Jazz Federation and Creative Scotland with marketing by our regular collaborator Charlotte Halliday of Noble-Ox.

Railway Children

I was recently the official stills photographer on the set of a short film produced for homeless charity, Railway Children – check out the resulting video here. The location was a disused factory in East Ham although some portraits were also taken in the basement car park of production company Mustard’s office in Soho.

The film was directed by Dom Bridges and some of the shots now form part of the print campaign (above) and new website designed by agency Peak 15. See other portaits and interiors in the Flickr set here »

Lino-cut long-player

We recently designed this CD cover for singer-songwriter and guitar-pickin’ Mark Harrison’s second album. Lovingly hand-crafted typography and illustration were all done in-house using lino-cutting. Check out Mark’s website for more info, tracks and live dates.

Perfumed planes for Penhaligon’s

It’s not every day you get paid to make paper aeroplanes! But Frank recently created a fragrant squadron as part of Penhaligon’s in-store promotion for Father’s Day. So, once impregnated with manly scent, these dashing flyers were attached to the wrist and flown under the nose of passing shoppers in order to tempt them into a purchase for pater! And we also created banners to promote the campaign online.

Say it with flowers

Frank’s passion for vintage ephemera was put into use recently on a project for fine perfumers Penhaligon’s of London. We created a range of mini-postcards which explained the Victorian ‘Language of Flowers’. For example, did you know that the giving of Gardenias signifies a ‘secret love’? Check out the full range below.

Driving Jarvis Ham

Frank recently contributed a photograph of a greasy spoon to the cover of the new novel by Jim Bob, former singer with 90s crust-punk indie crossover act Carter the Unstoppable Sex machine. The book is published by The Friday Project, an experimental imprint of Harper Collins (Design and typography by Iambeak). Pick up a copy here or check out more ‘greasy spoon’ pics here.
